One of the unique services that TOXCON
offers is the ability to conduct real-time exposure effects studies
on volunteer human subjects. One advantage of this to the client is
that potential adverse health effects arising from product exposure
can be identified before a product is marketed to the general
public, or to provide robust data elucidating the relationship
between exposure to client products and reported adverse health
effects.
Recent Clinical Studies have
ranged in size, involving from 3 to almost 400 subjects. The
following page gives more information on recent
human clinical studies.
Test
products have been ‘household’ products, current products
commonly found about the house, or new products intended for the
same market. These have included aerosol products, fabric treatment
products, carpet treatment powders, and the components of
residential pesticide products.
When any product is tested using human
subjects, the primary concern is one of subject safety. The
following page gives applicable information on :
Human Exposure Requirements
Prior to any subjects’ participation in a
study, all subjects have a background medical history taken and are
assessed for eligibility within the study by qualified medical
personnel. Each participant is informed of the details of the study,
including details of the product they are being exposed to, and are
all required to sign a consent form, acknowledging understanding of
the information. The following page gives more information on the
